TERRY
LEE OWENS,
86 years of age of Vansant, VA, passed away Saturday, October 19, 2013 at
the Buchanan General Hospital following an extended illness. Born in
Buchanan County, he was the son of the late George and Crissie Owens. He was
a lifelong resident of Buchanan County and attended the Big Fox Community
Church. Mr. Owens served in the armed forces during World War II. He was a
loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and was the last
surviving member of his immediate family. Mr. Owens was a former Buchanan
County Deputy Sheriff during Burl Rife’s Administration, a retired Coal
Miner last working for Jewell Smokeless Coal Corp. and enjoyed gardening and
bee keeping.
In addition to
his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Maggie Marie Deel Owens,
July 3, 1999; Great-Granddaughter: Sarah Jessica Looney; 2-Sisters: Eva Bonk
and Mae Parsons; and 5-Brothers: Lonzy, Lacy, Farley, Dewey and Glen Owens.
He is survived by
2-Daughters: Peggy Owens Looney, Vansant, VA, Sandee Owens (Tony) Matney,
Vansant, VA
Also, survived by
3-Grandchildren: Veronica Looney Ratliff, Scott Looney, Brandon Matney;
2-Great-Grandchildren: Matthew David Looney and Mary Catherine Looney; and
Special Friend: Peggy Tiller.
Graveside Rites for
TERRY LEE OWENS will be
conducted Tuesday, October 22, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. at the Greenhills Memory
Gardens, Claypool Hill, VA, with Rev. Lester Boyd officiating with burial to
follow.
Friends may call
at the Grundy Funeral Home Chapel Monday afternoon at 5:30 P.M. with funeral
services at 7:00 P.M.
Active
Pallbearers will be family and friends.
