PHILIP ARTHUR WOOD, 82 years of age of Grundy, Virginia passed away Sunday, July 29, 2012 at the Holston Valley Medical Center, Kingsport, TN following a brief illness.  Born in Buchanan County he was the son of the late C. Arthur and Mae Owens Wood.  Mr. Wood a lifelong resident of Buchanan County and was a grocery store manager and was an auto dealership service writer. He was a 1947 graduate of Grundy High School.  He attended the Grundy Baptist Church.  He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.  He will be greatly missed by a host of family and friends. 

Mr. Wood is preceded in death by his first wife: Amanda Ratliff Wood, and his second wife Delphia Compton Wood.

Mr. Wood is survived by: 1-Daughter: Lisa Mae Wood, Grundy, VA .,  2-Sons: Philip J. Wood and wife Janice,                     Hawthorne, FL., Charles E. Wood and wife Rosemary,  Grundy, VA.,  1-Sister: Alma Ruth Rife and husband Lonzo,           Grundy, VA .,  1-Brother: Ernest Wood and Mary, Wise, VA.

He is survived by 4- step children: Bobby Endicott, Wendell Endicott, Roger Endicott and Wilma Jean Deel.   He is also survived by 4- grandchildren: Allen Wood, Timothy Wood, Sabrina Shortridge and Kerri Hoover and 5- great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by one foster brother: J. H. (Jim) Childress.

Funeral Services for PHILIP ARTHUR WOOD will be held Wednesday, August 1, 2012 at 1:00 P.M. at the Grundy Funeral Chapel  with Rev. Donald Tittle officiating with burial to follow at the Mountain Valley Memorial Park, Big Rock, VA.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 31, 2012 at 6:00 P.M. at the Grundy Funeral Home Chapel with a song service at 7:00 P.M.

Active Pallbearers will be Allen Wood, Timothy Wood, Teddy Shortridge, Gary Owens, Danny Wood, Jeff Wood, David Deel and Jonathan Deel.
