OAKLEY SHORTRIDGE LOONEY SLONE, 90 years of age of the Dry Fork Section of Vansant, VA, went to be with the Lord, Sunday, January 13, 2013 at her home following an extended illness. Born in Rowe, VA, she was the daughter of the late Tom and Dealie Arwood Shortridge.  She was a lifelong resident of Buchanan County, the last surviving member of her immediate family and was a member of the Harman Freewill Baptist Church. Mrs. Slone was a homemaker and she said her calling and work for the Lord was to pray for the sick and needy and to call other people to pray for others.

 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband , John Looney and by her second husband, Ernest Slone; by 5 brothers, Willie Shortridge, Stanley Shortridge, Ernest Shortridge, Ayers Shortridge and Carter Shortridge; and by three sisters, Kansas Gouge, Edna Fuller and Violet Street.

 

She is survived by 2-Daughters: Mrs. Harold (Loweda Fletcher) Gillespie, Vansant, VA, Wanda Lea Potter, Warren, MI,

2-Grandsons: Randy (Wife Bonita) Fletcher, Richlands, VA, Ricky Fletcher, Vansant, VA, 1- Granddaughter: Karen Syepytowski, Detroit, MI, 1-Great-Grandson: Alex, Detroit, MI, 1-Sister-In-Law: Mae Shortridge, Lebanon, VA, Special Friends: Teresa VanDyke, Goldie Mitchell, Phyllis Scott, Sharon Coleman, Anna  June Street,  Dr. Melissa Keen, Special Care Hospice Employees, Friendship Medical Employees, as well as all of the many loving hands and hearts that touched her life.

 

Also, survived by several nieces and nephews that loved her and a host of friends that loved her.

                                    

Funeral Services for OAKLEY SHORTRIDGE LOONEY SLONE will be conducted Tuesday, January 15, 2013 at 12:00 Noon at the Grundy Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Eddie Wilson, Rev. Ancil Childress and Evg. Mike Rife officiating with burial to follow in Clinch Valley Cemetery, Richlands, VA

 

Friends may call at the Grundy Funeral Home Chapel Monday evening after 6:00 P.M. with a song service at 7:00 P.M.

 

Active Pallbearers will be Nephews, Randy Vandyke and Tommy Deel.

 

Honorary Pallbearers will be Nieces.
