LEONARD
GOOSLIN,
affectionately known as “Pa”, 90 years of age of Hurley, VA, passed away
Wednesday, August 15, 2012, at the Buchanan General Hospital following an
extended illness. Born in Pike County, KY, he was the son of the late
Tolbert “Tom” and Elizabeth Blackburn Gooslin. He was a resident of Buchanan
County most of his life living in the Hurley Area. Leonard served in the
United States Army during World War II and participated in the Battle of the
Bulge. In addition to the commendation from France, Gooslin also received
the Purple Heart, the Bronze Star, rife and sharpshooter medals, seven in
all. He was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather
and was a retired Coal Miner, Carpenter and Woodworker.
Mr. Gooslin was preceded in death by his wife, Mae
Allen Gooslin, 1976.
He is survived by 2-Daughters: Patsy Hale, Hurley,
VA, Kathy and husband Ernest Hagy, Hurley, VA, 1-Sister: Alice Williams, Red
Jacket, WV, 3-Grandchildren: Steven and wife Chasity Hagy, Hurley, VA, James
Keith Hagy, Vansant, VA, Kevin Hale, Richlands, VA, 5-Great-Grandchildren:
Steven Kyle Hagy, Hurley, VA, Keaton Blake Hagy, Hurley, VA, Brian Edward
Hagy, Marion, VA, Madison Hagy, Hurley, VA, McKenzie Hagy, Hurley, VA
He was preceded in death by 2-Sisters: Edith Miller
and Victoria Johnson; 4-Brothers: Frank, Jess, Ben and Charlie Gooslin;
3-Half-Sisters: Ann Webb, Elsie Ogle and Margaret McCoy; and 2-Half
Brothers: Andy and Everett New.
Funeral Services for
LEONARD GOOSLIN will be
conducted Saturday, August 18, 2012 at 1:00 P.M. at the Blackey Church of
Christ with Evg. Rick Stiltner, Evg. Mike Rife and Evg. William L. Neeley
officiating with burial to follow in Mountain Valley Memorial Park, Big
Rock, VA.
Friends may call at the Grundy Funeral Home Chapel
Friday evening at 6:00 P.M. with services at 7:00 P.M.
Mr. Gooslin will be moved to the Blackey Church of
Christ Saturday, August 18, 2012, at 11:00 A.M. to await the funeral hour at
1:00 P.M.
Active Pallbearers will be Steven Hagy, James Keith
Hagy, Kevin Hale, Bobby Conn, Clinton Hurley and Justin Hurley.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Dr. Kabaria, Nursing
Staff of Clinch Valley Hospital, Heritage Hall Nursing Home Staff, David and
Sue Cook, Ernest Hagy, and Special Angels: Medla Jean Ling, Regina Justus,
Angela Owens, Emily Hunt, Lena Jackson, Sonja Hurley, Patricia Sullivan and
Keshia Hackworth.
Full Military Rites will be conducted at the
cemetery by Members of Childs Gentry Post No. 7360 of the Veterans of
Foreign War.
