LAURA SMITH, 92 years of age of Hurley, VA, passed away Friday, August 23, 2013 at the Buchanan General Hospital following an extended illness. Born in Pike County, KY, she was the daughter of the late Perry and Mary Young Blankenship. She was a member of the Hurley Church of God and the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother and was a wonderful homemaker. She was a Custodian for Appalachian Agency and cooked at the D.A. Justus Elementary School for over 30-years.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Tom Smith; 2-Sons: Tom Smith, Jr. and Clyde Griffey; 1-Granddaughter: Rebecca Griffey; and several brothers and sisters.  

She is survived by 5-Daughters: Connie (Tim) Charles, Richlands, VA, Ruby (Junior) Cline, Hurley, VA, Betty Blackburn, Kingsport, TN, Bonnie Church, Grundy, VA, Pat (Randy) Jackson, Deskins, VA, 3-Sons: Pim (Peggy) Griffey, Maxie, VA, Ronnie (Cathy) Smith, Richmond, VA, Jerry (Debbie) Smith, Hurley, VA

Also, survived by 24-Grandchildren including 3-Special Granddaughters: Amber Gibson, Sherry Gibson and Cheyenne Gibson; several Great-Grandchildren and Great-Great-Grandchildren.

Funeral Services for LAURA SMITH will be conducted Monday, August 26, 2013 at 1:00 P.M. at the Hurley Church of God with Revs. Gary Charles, Doug Blankenship and Carl Blankenship officiating with burial to follow in the Anon Blankenship Cemetery, Hurley, VA.

Friends may call at the Hurley Church of God Saturday evening at 6:00 P.M. with services Saturday and Sunday evenings at 7:00 P.M.

Active Pallbearers will be Junior Cline, Terry Church, Tim Charles, Justin Cline, Carl Blankenship and Randy Jackson.
