JOSEPH AKERS,
65 years of age of Raven, VA, passed away Sunday, October 28, 2012 at
Wellmont Hospice, Bristol, TN following an extended illness. Born in
Pikeville, KY, he was the son of the late James and Ollie Akers. Mr. Akers
was a member of the United Assembly of God in Seneca, SC, a former heavy
equipment operator and was last employed as a meter builder for Itron
Electrical Meters in West Union, SC. He was a US Army veteran.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death
by a grandson: Ryan May.
He is survived by his wife, Bureda Freeman Akers,
Raven, VA, 2-Step-daughters: Lydia (Chris) Hampton, Raven, VA, Carmela
Perkins, Big Rock, VA, 2-Daughters: Rachel Akers, Pikeville, KY, Robin
Gillman, Elkhorn City, KY, 1-Sister: Ileane (Carson) Childers, Romulus,
Michigan, 3-Brothers: Coy (Nora) Akers, Elorse, Michigan, Ballard (Phyllis)
Akers, Madisonville, IN, Jerry (Nancy) Akers, Pikeville, KY,
7-grandchildren: Katlyn Hampton, Isaac Hampton, Caleb Hampton, Jacob
Hampton, Chase Keen, Casen Phillips & Courtney Ward
Also, survived by several nieces, nephews and many
friends.
Mr. Akers will be cremated and a memorial service
will be held at a later date.
