JAMES DONALD BURKES, 77 years of age of the Belcher’s Fork Section of Harman, VA, passed away Friday, February 8, 2013 at his home following an extended illness. Born in Pike County, KY, he was the son of the late Charles Sheridan and Linda Edna Owens Burkes. He was a resident of Buchanan County many years and was a member of the Poplar Creek Church of Christ. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and was a retired Coal Miner and Truck Driver.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Juanita Stump Burkes; 2-Brothers: Thomas and Ernest Ray Burkes; Grandson: J.B. McClanahan; Great-Granddaughter: Kadence Smith; Great-Grandson: Matthew Charles Morgan.

Mr. Burkes is survived by 5-Children: Gary Keith (wife Etta) Burkes, Ruther Glen, VA, James Junior (wife Mary Beth) Burkes, Belchers Fork, VA, Randy Charles Burkes, Alexander County, NC, Priscilla McClanahan, Belchers Fork, VA, Jeffery Lee (wife Melissa) Burkes, Alexander County, NC, 5-Sisters: Faye (husband Harold) Charles, Maryland, Shelby Thomas, Winchester, KY, Delores (husband Tommy) Dishner, Johnson City, TN, Mary (husband James) Honaker, Sarasota, FL, Mickey (husband Joseph) McGlynn, Troutman, NC, 1-Brother: Charles S. (wife Sandy) Burkes Jr., Staunton, VA

Also, survived 12-Grandchildren and 10-Great-Grandchildren.

Funeral Services for JAMES DONALD BURKES will be conducted Tuesday, February 12, 2013 at 2:00 P.M. at the Harman Memorial Baptist Church with Pastor Shea Shrader officiating with a private burial following.

Friends may call at the Grundy Funeral Home Chapel Sunday evening at 6:00 P.M. and at the Harman Memorial Baptist Church Monday evening at 6:00 P.M. with services at 7:00 P.M.
