HELEN ARVIE VANOVER MAYS, 75 years of age of the Little Prater Section of Grundy, VA, passed away Saturday, February 9, 2013 at the Buchanan General Hospital following an extended illness. Born in Buchanan County, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Lettie Childress Vanover. She was a lifelong resident of Buchanan County and was a member of the Little Prater Church of Christ. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and was a retired employee of Jewell Smokeless Coal Company. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Oakley H. Mays, May 18, 1993; 1-Son: Denver Mays; 1-Grandson: Robert Looney; 7-Sisters: Edith Vanover, Agnes Caperton, Mildred Smith, May Fleming, Gay Church, Nannie Yates and Fay Fletcher; 3-Brothers: Lee Vanover, Alonzo Vanover and Ron Keith Vanover.

 

She is survived by 3-Daughters: Connie Looney, Bristol, VA, Cheri (husband Roger) Boyd, Satsuma, FL, Rita McNutt, Conaway, VA, 1-Son: Richard (wife Brenda) Mullins, Maxton, NC

 

Also, survived by 11-Grandchildren, 19-Great-Grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

 

Funeral Services for HELEN ARVIE VANOVER MAYS will be conducted Tuesday, February 12, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. at the Grundy Funeral Home Chapel with Evg. Mike Rife and Evg. Jon Searle officiating with entombment to follow in Greenhills Mausoleum, Claypool Hill, VA.

 

Friends may call at the Grundy Funeral Home Chapel Monday evening at 6:00 P.M. with a song service at 7:00 P.M.

 

Active Pallbearers will be Grandsons and Friends.
