EUGENE THOMAS,
81 years of age of the Dry Fork Section of
Vansant, Virginia passed away Tuesday, November 12, 2013 following
complications from surgery.
Born in Murphy, VA, he was the son of the
late Riley and Virgie Boyd Thomas.
He was of the protestant faith and served
in the U. S. Army during the Korean conflict era.
He was a loving husband, father, and
grandfather.
He was a carpenter/mill wright for Oscar
Mayer in Chicago for twenty years and returned to Grundy and worked on the
carpenter crew for the Board of Supervisors. He was also a member of the
American Legion John Ratliff Post #164 for 27 years.
In addition to
his parents, he was preceded in death by -1 sister: Nadine Thomas and -5
brothers: Cecil Thomas, Sydney Thomas, J. C. Thomas, Frank Thomas and Ralph
Thomas.
He is survived by
his wife of 56 years, Norma Jeanette Deel Thomas, Vansant, VA.
He is also
survived by 3-Sons: Doug and wife Debbie Thomas, Harman, VA, Gregory and
wife Angela Thomas, St. Paul, VA, Gary and wife Rebecca “Chantay” Thomas,
Cedar Bluff, VA, 1-Brother: Tivis Edward Thomas, Vansant, VA,
4-Grand-daughters: Heather and husband Jonah Edwards, Concord, NC, Nicole
and husband Jon Deel, Harman, VA, Victoria and husband Seth Griffith, St.
Paul, VA, Michaela Thomas, Cedar Bluff, VA, 1-Grandson: Ryan Thomas, Harman,
VA
Funeral Services for
EUGENE THOMAS will be conducted
Saturday, November 16, 2013 at 12 Noon at the Grundy Funeral Home Chapel
with Evangelist William L. Neeley officiating with burial to follow in the
Greenhills Memory Garden, Claypool Hill, VA.
Full graveside military rites will be
conducted by the American Legion John Ratliff Post #164.
Friends may call
at the Grundy Funeral Home Chapel after 6:00 P.M. Friday with services at 7
P.M.
Active
pallbearers will be family and friends.
