EDITH
FERN FIELDS YUHASZ,
94 years of age of Grundy, VA, this master teacher has quietly gone on to be
with her Master Teacher, Sunday, December 30, 2012 at her home following an
extended illness. Born in Buchanan County, she was the daughter of the late
George Washington and Gracie McClanahan Fields. She was a lifelong resident
of Buchanan County and was a member of the Grundy Church of Christ for
67-years where she taught Bible School for many years and was very active in
the Butterflies.
Edith earned Valedictorian of the Class of 1940 of
Mountain Mission School, attended Milligan College in Johnson City, TN for
1-year, and then transferred to Radford where she graduated in 1943. After
she graduated, she began working for the Buchanan County School System and
did so for 35-years. She taught 8th Grade Math, Science and Home
Economics at Grundy Junior High and Grundy Senior High during her tenure.
After retiring, she continued being active in the community by working with
such organizations as the American Cancer Society, American Red Cross and
the Retired Teachers Association. She was a devoted wife, loving mother,
grandmother, great-grandmother and was an avid gardener, seamstress and
cook.
In addition to
her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 51-years,
John S. Yuhasz; 2-Sisters: Faye Fields Blankenship and Elsie Fields Cline;
and 1-Brother: Dorsey Fields.
She is survived
by 1-Daughter: Carolyn and husband Jim Lilly, Decatur, GA, 1-Son: David and
wife Anita Yuhasz, Key Largo, FL, 2-Sisters: Ruby Cline, Tampa, FL, Opal M.
Belcher, Ft. Meyers, FL, 1-Sister-in-Law: Fern Fields, Clintwood, VA,
6-Grandchildren: Amy and husband Dan Richards, St. Cloud, FL, Grace Yuhasz,
Key Largo, FL, Eric Yuhasz, Orlando, FL, Royce and wife Melinda Lilly,
Ellenwood, GA, James Todd Lilly, Fall Branch, TN, Shawn and wife Kristy
Lilly, Fall Branch, TN
Also, survived by
6-Great-Grandchildren and several Nieces and Nephews.
Funeral Services for
EDITH FERN FIELDS YUHASZ will be
conducted Thursday, January 3, 2013 at 12:00 Noon at the Grundy Funeral Home
Chapel with Evg. Dennis Wimmer officiating with burial to follow in Mountain
Valley Memorial Park, Big Rock, VA.
Friends may call
at the Grundy Funeral Home Chapel Thursday morning at 11:00 A.M. to await
the funeral hour at 12:00 Noon.
Active or
Honorary Pallbearers will be Joe Besenyei, Hank Blankenship, James Todd
Lilly, Shawn Lilly, Eric Yuhasz, Bobby Besenyei and Denny Fuller.
The family
