EARVIN LAYNE, SR., 83 years of age of the Layne Bottom Section of Hurley, VA, passed away Friday, February 22, 2013 at the Carolina Medical Center, Lincolnton, NC, following an extended illness. Born in Buchanan County, he was the son of the late Elias and Matilda Blankenship Layne. He was a lifelong resident of Hurley, VA, and had an outgoing personality and was loved by many people. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and a disabled Coal Miner. Earvin was an avid Horseman and was of the Holiness Faith.

 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Pauline Layne, March 22, 2007; 2-Sisters: Maxie Justice and Birchie Justus; 3-Brothers: Earl Layne, Tab Layne and McKinnley Layne; and 1-Grandson: Eddie Ray Matney Jr.

 

He is survived by 8-Children: Melody (Eddie Ray) Matney, Hurley, VA, Jennifer Snellenburger, Hurley, VA, Rhonda (Charlie) Goad, Richmond, VA, Charlotte (Jimmy) Prater, Hurley, VA, Kim Layne (Darrell) Estep, Iron Station, NC, Gary (Sharon) Shafer, Hurley, VA, Earvin Layne Jr., Anderson, IN, Jerry (Denise) Shafer, Hurley, VA, 2-Grandsons that he raised: Alex Prater, Iron Station, NC, Jeffery Prater, Iron Station, NC, 1-Sister: Mary Layne Willis, Alabama, 1-Brother: Danny Ray (Linda) Layne, Hurley, VA

 

Also, survived by 17-Grandchildren, 18-Great-Grandchildren, and numerous Nieces, Nephews and Friends whom he loved.

 

Funeral Services for EARVIN LAYNE, SR. will be conducted Wednesday, February 27, 2013 at 1:00 P.M. at the Word Evangelistic Outreach Church (WEO), Wolford, VA, with Rev. David Cline officiating with burial to follow in Layne Cemetery on Layne Bottom, near Hurley, VA.

 

Friends may call at the Word Evangelistic Outreach Church (WEO) Monday afternoon at 6:00 P.M. with services Monday and Tuesday evenings at 7:00 P.M.

 

Active Pallbearers will be Family and Friends.
