EARL CHARLES, 93 years of age of the Russell Prater Section of Vansant, VA, went to be with the Lord, Sunday, September 30, 2012 at the Heritage Hall Nursing Home following an extended illness. Born in Buchanan County, he was the son of the late Jessie and Judy Kennedy Charles. He was a lifelong resident of Buchanan County and was a member of Coleman Chapel United Methodist Church. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather and was a mechanic for Harold Smith Ford for 40-Years. He was foremost a good Christian man and taught his family to serve the Lord by an example. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 59-Years, Pearl Boyd Charles, his step-mother, Delphi Sweeny Charles.

He is survived by 6-Daughters: Geneva and husband Phillip Willis, Rising Sun, MD, Judy and husband William Lockhart, Vansant, VA, Ruby Looney, Vansant, VA, Olagay Smith, Lebanon, VA, Diane and husband David Viers, Vansant, VA, Joetta and husband David Kiser, Vansant, VA, 2-Sons: Kermit Charles, Vansant, VA, Arton and wife Pauline Charles, Bristol, VA, 1-Daughter-in-Law: Diane Charles, Haysi, VA, 3-Sisters: Katie Bowman, Vansant, VA, Jonie Vanover, Vansant, VA, Sarah Hall, Ft. Wayne, IN, 3-Brothers: Willard Charles, Vansant, VA, Glenn Charles, Vansant, VA, Richard Charles, Grundy, VA

Also, survived by 21-Grandchildren, 22-Great-Grandchildren and was blessed long enough to see several Great-Great-Grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by 1-Son: Jerry Lee Charles; 2-Sisters: Lydia Boyd and Edith Boyd; 3-Brothers: Joe Charles, Arville Charles, Alford Charles; 1-Daughter-in-Law: Frankie Charles and 1-Son-in-Law: Charlie Looney.

Funeral Services for EARL CHARLES will be conducted Thursday, October 4, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. at the Grundy Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Darrell Thacker officiating with burial to follow in Mountain Valley Memorial Park, Big Rock, VA.

Friends may call at the Grundy Funeral Home Chapel Wednesday evening at 6:00 P.M. with services at 7:00 P.M.

Active Pallbearers will be Grandsons.
