DESSIE IRENE VIERS THACKER ARMS, 87 years of age of Vansant, VA, passed away Tuesday, August 20, 2013 at the Buchanan General Hospital following an extended illness. Born in Buchanan County, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Merbia Clevinger Viers. She was a lifelong resident of Buchanan County and was a member of Little Freedom Old Regular Baptist Church. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and former employee of a sewing factory. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Oliver Thacker; 1-Son: Ralph Thacker; 1-Sister: Mary Ruth Viers; and 2-Brothers: Ellis Viers and Clyde Viers.

She is survived by 1-Son: Bill Thacker, Vansant, VA, 5-Grandchildren: Pamela (Steve) Looney, Maysville, WV, Jessie Lee Thacker, Vansant, VA, Shanna (Mark) Dixon, Meadowview, VA, John (Amy) Thacker, Abingdon, VA, Daryll Thacker, Abingdon, VA

Also, survived by 9-Great-Grandchildren.

Funeral Services for DESSIE IRENE VIERS THACKER ARMS will be conducted Thursday, August 22, 2013 at 2:00 P.M. at the Grundy Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Benny Williams officiating with burial to follow in the Mountain Valley Memorial Park, Big Rock, VA.

Friends may call at the Grundy Funeral Home Chapel Wednesday evening at 6:00 P.M. with services at 7:00 P.M.

Active Pallbearers will be Donnie Blankenship, Clinton Ratliff, Harold Gillespie, Junior Blankenship, Terry Looney, Roy Ellis and Junior Sexton.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Dr. H. Patel and Staff of Heritage Hall Nursing Home.
