DELBERT CHARLES, SR., 78 years of age of Prater, VA, passed away Wednesday, September 26, 2012 at the Buchanan General Hospital following an extended illness. Born June 7, 1934, in Buchanan County, he was the son of the late Robert E. Lee and Ida Belle Owens Charles. He was a lifelong resident of Buchanan County, a member of Prater Creek Primitive Baptist Church since April 1986, and was a retired Coal Miner. He was a loving husband and father who enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching westerns and spending time with family and dogs.

Mr. Charles is survived by his wife of 51-years, Betty Meadow Charles, Prater, VA., 2-Daughters: Melissa and husband Johnny McClanahan, Poplar Creek, VA, Ingrid and husband Chris Stiltner, Vansant, VA, 3-Sons: Delbert, Jr. and wife Sarah Charles, Prater, VA, Allen and wife Tammy Charles, Prater, VA, Robert and wife Lisa Charles, Prater, VA,

1-Brother: Tollie and wife Lorean Charles, Prater, VA, 1-Sister-in-Law: Burgie Maturi, Little Prater, VA

Also, survived by 11-Grandchildren and 4-Great-Grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 4-Sisters: Maudie Woods, Maxie Charles, Bonnie Woods and Bertie Viers; 1-Brother: Simmie Charles; and 1-Granddaughter: Susan Nichole Charles.

Funeral Services for DELBERT CHARLES, SR., will be conducted Saturday, September 29, 2012 at 1:00 P.M. at the Grundy Funeral Home Chapel with Elders: Willard Owens and Jeffrey Arnold officiating with burial to follow in the Charles Cemetery on Prater, VA.

Friends may call at the Grundy Funeral Home Chapel Friday evening at 6:00 P.M. with services at 7:00 P.M.

Active Pallbearers will be Sons, Grandchildren & Sons-in-Law.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Dr. J.G. Patel, Danny Charles, the ICU, 3^rd Floor Nursing Staff and Respiratory Department at Buchanan General Hospital.
