DAVID GEORGE MATNEY, 60 years of age of the Elkins Branch Section of Grundy, VA, went to be with the Lord, Sunday, September 29, 2013 at the Wellmont-Holston Valley Medical Center, Kingsport, TN, following an extended illness. Born in Richlands, VA, he was the son of the late Sherman H. and Peggy Charles Matney. He was a lifelong resident of Buchanan County and was a founding member of New Hope Christian Church where he served as an Elder and Sunday School Teacher.

David was a graduate of Grundy Senior High School Class of 1971 and received his B.S. in Pharmacy in 1977. He was very active in the community and worked very hard to make Grundy a better place for everyone. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, friend and was a registered Pharmacist.

He is survived by his High School Sweetheart and Wife of 38-Years, Debbie Blankenship Matney, Grundy, VA, 1-Son: Anthony David (Amanda) Matney, Bluff City, TN, 1-Granddaughter: Lillian Grace Matney, Bluff City, TN, 2-Brothers: Douglas (Connie) Matney, Grundy, VA, Randall (Laura) Matney, Johnson City, TN, 5-Nieces: Shenna Horn (Anthony) Viers, Vansant, VA, Jennifer Matney (Kevin) Hopkins, Richmond, VA, Anne Catherine (Mike) Luniewski, Palmyra, VA, Sara Matney (Brad) Reed, Jonesville, TN, Allison Matney (Josh) Stamper, St. Paul, MN, 1-Very Special Nephew: Shane (Morgan) Horn, Richmond, VA

Funeral Services for DAVID GEORGE MATNEY will be conducted Wednesday, October 2, 2013 at 2:00 P.M. at the Mountain Mission School Chapel with Evg. William L. Neeley and Evg. Mike Rife officiating with entombment to follow in the Mountain Rest Mausoleum, Mountain Valley Memorial Park, Big Rock, VA.

Friends may call at the Mountain Mission School Chapel Tuesday evening after 6:00 P.M.

Active Pallbearers will be Timmy Lee, Rodney Lee, Freddie Lee, Rages Matney, Ed Yates, Mark Mutter, Jim Owens, David Rowe, Jeremy Fields, Heath Calhoun, Eric Webb and Dennis Ramey.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Elders and Deacons of New Hope Christian Church, Board of Trustees at Mountain Mission School, Dr. Clint Sutherland, Ken Johnston, Steve Smith, Jim McGlothlin, Lloyd Lester, Dave Shanahan and Dr. Mario Desiliva.
