BESSIE STEWART COMPTON, 86 years of age of Paynesville, WV, went to be with the Lord, Tuesday, September 18, 2012 at her home following an extended illness. Born in Buchanan County, she was the daughter of the late Monroe and Louise Rife Stewart. She was a resident of Buchanan County most of her life and was a member of the Bradshaw Church of God. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and was a wonderful homemaker. Bessie served as caretaker at the Boys Dormitory at Mountain Mission School and was a former cook at Buchanan General Hospital. She is the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Mrs. Compton was preceded in death by her husband, Miles Compton; 5-Sisters: Cora Kelly, Lucy Daniels, Lina Muncy, Ruby Davis and Virginia Fife; 1-Brother: Firl Stewart; 1-Daughter: Rhoda Louise Compton; and Son-in-Law: Tom Simons.

She is survived by 3-Daughters: Linda Simons, Richlands, VA, Brenda Goodman, Paynesville, WV, Alice and husband Halsey Roberts, Hamptonville, NC, 1-Son: Robert and wife Margaret Compton, Jolo, WV, 5-Grandchildren: Scotty and wife Crystal Hughes, Raysal, WV, David and wife Dara Hughes, Gary, WV, Jesse and wife April Roberts, Statesville, NC, Angie and husband Jimmy Mattingly, Troutman, NC, Traci and husband Daniel Blankenship, Troutman, NC

Also, survived by 7-Great-Grandchildren: Brendan Blankenship, Robbie Hughes, Donavan Poore, Bo Mattingly, Halston Mattingly, Hannah Burke and Daniel Long; 2-Special Caregivers, her nieces: Helen Asbury and Pauline Christian; 1-Adopted Daughter: Phyllis Justus and Special Lifetime Friends: the Easterling Families.

Funeral Services for BESSIE STEWART COMPTON will be conducted Friday, September 21, 2012 at 1:00 P.M. at the Family Worship Center, Jolo, WV, with Revs. Bill Harman, Roger Payne and Charles Rose officiating with burial to follow in the Vance Cemetery, Paynesville, WV.

Friends may call at the Family Worship Center, Jolo, WV, Thursday evening at 6:00 P.M. with services at 7:00 P.M.

Active Pallbearers will be Daniel Blankenship, Jimmy Mattingly, Scotty Hughes, David Hughes, Jesse Roberts, Donovan Poore, Daniel Long and Jeff Easterling.
