Loyalty to Brands – Amazon

“Loyalty to Brands” focusing on Amazon.com

By a show of virtual hands, who has shopped on Amazon in the past week?  That’s what I figured and the leader in ecommerce is our focus in the latest “Loyalty to Brands”.  Founded in 1994 as an online bookstore, Amazon has become much, much more over the years.  There isn’t much out there for sale that you can’t get on Amazon.  Founder and CEO Jeff Bezos continues to run the show at the Seattle-based giant, finding new and exciting ways to expand Amazon’s portfolio.

So what has driven my brand loyalty to Amazon?  While price is an added benefit, it is not my number one driver.  The convenience of shopping on Amazon drives my loyalty.  Specifically, Amazon Prime has made my life so much easier.  It is, beyond the shadow of a doubt, the best $99 I spend every year.  With two day shipping on the majority of purchases, I know that I’m getting what I want/need in a timely manner.  If said item doesn’t meet my needs, returns and exchanges cause virtually no pain or anguish.  Over the past five years or so, I would estimate that at least 80% of my holiday shopping is done on Amazon.  In just November and December, the Amazon Prime subscription fee pays for itself.  Tech gifts, clothes, K-cups, and on and on, the list continues to grow each and every year. Loyalty to Brands – Honda

The next in our series of “Loyalty to Brands” focuses on a brand that I’ve been loyal to since my late teenage years, the automaker Honda. What started off as a friend’s recommendation in college has wound up lasting 15+ years and four vehicles. Building off of last week’s #SundayMusings we are continuing the focus on the auto industry this weekend.

Needing a new car for my summer vacation and to get to and from work, a simple recommendation from a friend sent me on my way to a Honda dealership. Given the need for a car with strong MPG and having little need for more room, it was an easy decision to go with the Honda Civic. Fast forward several years and the fact that my brother needed a car, I “upgraded” to my first Honda Accord and gave him the Civic. [Read more…]

Pin of the Month – Retail Loyalty

June's "Pin of the Month" from Kobie Marketing Retail Loyalty in 2014

June’s “Pin of the Month” from Kobie Marketing
Retail Loyalty in 2014

Our June ‘Pin of the Month’ focuses on retail loyalty and how mobile technology is forwarding the market. The infographic is brought to us by Kobie Marketing. We’ve been focusing on mobile in recent weeks through our bi-weekly #SundayMusings and even in last month’s Pin of the Month – the Smartphone Revolution.

If you have spent any time on this site over the past year, I think we can align on the fact that more and more people are using smartphones and they are becoming more and more of a part of our everyday lives. Within the infographic we see a relatively bold statement from Kobie that “2014 will be the year of seamless transition between brick-and-mortar, online, and mobile”. [Read more…]

Branding and Digital Marketing

Branding and Digital Marketing

Welcome back to another edition of #SundayMusings! This week we will be focusing on retail-related news and stories that caught our attention over the past few weeks. As a quick aside, we will also be focusing on retail and retail loyalty in the forthcoming June “Pin of the Month” next weekend. For now, here are the stories that caught my attention.

#1 – Do Tablets Have The Power To Revolutionize Retail – via CMO.com

Premise: While not there yet, tablets will soon be everywhere. Similar to how the iPod revolutionized the music industry, tablets will turn the retail landscape on its head. It is predicted that half of the US will have a tablet within the next few years. Tablets are a research-friendly device for customers and the author provides several additional motivating facts for leveraging tablets for your business.

Thoughts: The second screen has changed consumers’ behaviors – from how they watch television to the entire retail/shopping experience. The Nordstrom example provided by the author is a great way to show how a retailer can leverage a tablet to create a unique experience for its customers. Bookmark the site for future write-ups on how tablets are impacting additional industries as well. [Read more…]

Loyalty to Brands – Hilton

Loyalty to Brands - Hilton

Loyalty to Brands – Hilton
(Hilton HHonors)

Our second “Loyalty to Brands” focuses on a brand that I have become loyal to over the past ten years or so due to business travel and personal vacations. While I typically shop around for the best price/offer for airline tickets, there is very little comparative shopping being done when thinking about what hotel chain to stay at. Approximately 99.5% of my hotel stays are at a Hilton property.

What made me loyal to Hilton? First and foremost, the overall quality of just about every property I stay at – whether it be a Hilton, Hilton Garden Inn, Hampton Inn, Doubletree, or Embassy Suites, I can’t remember a truly bad experience. Here is what I tend to find at most Hilton properties: quality of the room itself, room upgrades, the breakfast (at many), and/or the service from employees. [Read more…]

Our March 2014 ‘Pin of the Month’ includes a bit of information on the key talking point this month on ShoreBranding.com – loyalty.  The infographic itself was found on QSRweb.com’s blog and was immediately selected based on the first of five tips it provided to restaurants who are considering a mobile app. [Read more…]

Welcome to a new series here on ShoreBranding.com called “Loyalty to Brands”.  As referenced in last week’s #SundayMusings, from time to time, we’ll be putting together a summary on the brands we are loyal to and why.  However, I would also like to open this up for guest writing opportunities as well – similar to what we did for our “Tips” series.  If you are loyal to a particular brand and interested in guest blogging, please let me know here in the Comments section below or through the Contact page.

Our first brand in focus may not be too surprising if you have been following the blog for the past year.  My strongest loyalty probably lies with Google.  Since converting over to Gmail as my preferred email system a handful or so years ago, it has been a growing affiliation with the brand.  My loyalty grew fivefold when I purchased the first Droid phone on Verizon.  I’ve since upgraded my phone several times and have been using the Galaxy Nexus for a couple of years. Welcome back to a new #SundayMusings w/ Shore Branding!  As mentioned in our last write-up, our #SundayMusings will continue on a bi-weekly basis and each one will focus on a key topic of interest.  This edition will focus on the various aspects of loyalty – from setting up a loyalty program, to specific rewards programs, and several other unique angles or pillars that all fall under the loyalty umbrella.

#1 – Sochi Olympics Shows Us the Future of Marketing … and It’s Very Cool – via LoyaltyLab.com

Premise: The Olympics coverage has leveraged a new way to understand and interact our customers through video data.  Those that are already integrating video data with the information they are receiving from their loyalty programs are creating powerful tools and information to analyze.  This of course assumes that those marketers have the right loyalty program in place, collecting the right information to improve their respective businesses. Branding and Digital Marketing

Welcome to #SundayMusings w/ Shore Branding, the top branding and digital marketing stories that caught my attention from the past week.

#1 – The Best-Perceived Brands of 2013 – via AdWeek.com

Premise: YouGov’s BrandIndex results are in for 2013 and Amazon has become the strongest perceived brand, followed by Ford and Subway to close out the top three.  Banks/Financial institutions started to rebound in 2013 as well, with four out of the top five most improved brands coming from this arena (with the other being American Airlines).  The article includes an infographic of the results and at the bottom you find the top brands by political affiliation.

Thoughts: It isn’t surprising to see Amazon at the top of the list, given their customer service and experience, along with the growth in Amazon Prime and the Kindle.  What is surprising is to see the Kindle itself come in at number 10.  Also surprising are the number two and three top brands – Ford and Subway, respectively.

What brands would be at the top of your list?  I would put Google and Amazon at the top of mine. [Read more…]
