Continuing our holiday spirit, this week’s #SundayMusings w/ Shore Branding has a Valentine’s Day twist to the top news in branding and digital marketing from the past week!

At the same time, I want to make a quick announcement and decision on the frequency of our #SundayMusings write-ups.  We’ll be moving to an every other week frequency moving forward due to several contributing factors.  What I would like to do is focus on a particular topic or storyline in each write-up.  This gives more time to come up with better stories that tie together under said umbrella.

#1 – How’s Your Brand’s Love Life – via Strategy-Business.com

Premise: After reading “Romancing the Brand”, the author of the article was able to ask a few questions to the author of the book about how brands can build deeper, more meaningful relationships with brands.

Thoughts: Beyond being a Valentine’s Day-related write-up, this article caught my attention for two reasons.  First, it looks like there is another branding book to put in the queue.  Second, the Radio Shack Super Bowl ad was used as an example of brand authenticity in its communication to consumers.  [Read more…]

Branding and Digital Marketing

Branding and Digital Marketing

Welcome back to another edition of Sunday Musings w/ Shore Branding, the top stories in branding and digital marketing from the past week.  We’re adding a new feature to the weekly write-up with a ‘Tweet of the Week’.  We’re simply looking for a tweet from a brand or company worth a little discussion.

#1 – Chrysler Goes From Eminem and Clint to Ron Burgundy? – via AdWeek.com

Premise: Chrysler, and specifically the Dodge Durango, is putting together a new campaign with the celebrity endorsement of … Ron Burgundy?  Will Ferrell’s Anchorman character will be the face of a new campaign and there are big plans forthcoming – a total of 67 videos will be produced.  Anchorman is scheduled to come out on December 20th of this year.

Thoughts: To say I’m excited for Anchorman 2 would be a gross understatement.  This write-up gives a glimpse into what these ads are going to look like and I can already predict that they will be phenomenal / hysterical.  Look for a number of promotions that get tied together with the sequel in the coming weeks and months! Branding and Digital Marketing

Branding and Digital Marketing

Here are this week’s stories that caught my attention in branding and digital marketing in this week’s Sunday Musings w/ Shore Branding.

#1 – Dollar Shave Club is Back with a New Product and Another Outrageous Video – via BrandChannel.com

Premise: Dollar Shave Club (DSC) is extending itself into a new market – wet wipes, aimed at men.  DSC went viral last year with its blades and razors subscription service and an eye opening YouTube ad.  They are back with their extension into wipes, which has remained a small, niche category relative to toilet paper sales.  DSC has some interesting research/data available behind this product that might suggest a strong opportunity to draw appeal.  As of now, the new wipes can only be purchased by those that sign up for their blades and razors subscription, but that might change in the future.

Thoughts: If you are not familiar with DSC’s YouTube ads, please click on the link above.  DSC’s President is clearly willing to take the risk of offending some people, with the (achieved) goal of breaking through the ad clutter.  I have been considering signing up for DSC to see how the razors are from an efficacy standpoint.  These ads make you want to try their subscription based service.
