Our second “Loyalty to Brands” focuses on a brand that I have become loyal to over the past ten years or so due to business travel and personal vacations. While I typically shop around for the best price/offer for airline tickets, there is very little comparative shopping being done when thinking about what hotel chain to stay at. Approximately 99.5% of my hotel stays are at a Hilton property.
What made me loyal to Hilton? First and foremost, the overall quality of just about every property I stay at – whether it be a Hilton, Hilton Garden Inn, Hampton Inn, Doubletree, or Embassy Suites, I can’t remember a truly bad experience. Here is what I tend to find at most Hilton properties: quality of the room itself, room upgrades, the breakfast (at many), and/or the service from employees.
Second, the Hilton HHonors loyalty program is phenomenal. My wife and I have saved thousands of dollars by leveraging the program – with the vast majority of that quote coming on our honeymoon in Australia. Have you seen “Up in the Air” with George Clooney? The movie features the Hilton Honors program and it is hard to call “BS” on any of the fringe benefits they illustrate in the movie.
Here are a few, specific Hilton properties that I want to call out for their excellence:
- Hilton Cincinnati Netherland Plaza – I have spent an enormous amount of days in this hotel for past work travel. The staff is phenomenal – a simple gesture like remembering my name at the front desk is really all that it took, but this hotel goes above and beyond.
- Hilton Christiana – While we got married elsewhere in Delaware, it was essentially a must for my wife and I to have our guests stay at this property. The property itself is gorgeous, but the food (for breakfast and lunch/dinner) is phenomenal.
- Hilton Sydney – This was our first stop on our honeymoon and we probably spoiled ourselves a bit with this hotel. The hotel is located in the CBD section of Sydney and has two bars on the bottom floors that were consistently packed, while having a very nice décor to them. However, it was the continental breakfast that won us over. This was, bar none, the best hotel breakfast I have ever experienced.
